Traumatic Brain Injuries After a Car Collision

Car collisions can present an individual with many different types of injuries.  One type of injury that can occur after a car collision is a truamatic brain injury.  A traumatic brain injury (TBI) is caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head, or a penetrating head injury that disprupts the normal function of the brain.  TBI's range in severety from mild to severe.  A mild TBI is often categorized as a brief change in mental status of consciousness while a severe TBI is often categorized as an extended period of unconsciousness or amnesia after the injury.

Symptoms of the effects of a TBI include headache, nausea, vimiting, balance problems, feeling mentally "foggy", feeling slowed down, difficulty concentrating, difficulty remembering, confusion, irratability, sadness, more emotional, nervousness, drowsiness, and sleeping more than usual.  TBIs are serious injuries that have a major impact on an individual's life.  A TBI victim often will need therapy and cognitive rehabilitation in order to cope with the injury and to retain some semblance of their past normal life.  For more information on TBI's, click here.
