Lawsuit filed against FIFA over concussions

A class action lawsuit was filed yesterday by a group of soccer parents and players against FIFA, soccer's international governing body, over its handling of concussions. The lawsuit, filed in a federal district court in California, also names U.S. Soccer and the American Youth Soccer Organization, alleging that they and FIFA have not properly monitored or treated head injuries.

Car Maker Hyundai fined $17 Million for failure to report brake defect

Auto maker Hyundai has agreed to pay a $17.35 million civil penalty placed against it by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) because it failed to promptly report a safety related defect. In addition to the fine, Hyundai also agreed to comply with NHTSA oversight requirements. The defect occurred in 2009-2012 Hyundai Genesis cars and involved corrosion in critical brake system components, resulting in reduced braking and an increased risk of crash.

Settlement reached in 500+ C.R. Bard Transvaginal mesh lawsuits

C.R. Bard, a manufacturer of transvaginal mesh, has agreed to settle more than 500 of the Avulta transvaginal mesh lawsuits pending against it for an undisclosed amount. C.R. Bard faces thousands of lawsuits, most of which are consolidated as part of a federal multidistrict litigation before U.S. District Judge Joseph Goodwin in the Southern District of West Virginia. There are more than 9,000 cases filed against C.R. Bard and there are nearly 60,000 federally filed multidistrict litigation cases involving transvaginal mesh.

Two separate ATV accidents over the weekend sent two people to local hospitals. The first ATV accident happened in Farmington when, according to the Marion County Sheriff's Department, a man was riding an ATV in his yard and went over an embankment, causing an ATV to land on top of him.

Citations Issued in Harrison County, WV Cell Tower Collapse

On Thursday, July 31, 2014, the federal Occupational, Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) issued citations and fined S&S Communications Specialists $14,000.00 for two serious safety violations. The citations to the Oklahoma Company stem from three deaths when the cell tower collapsed in February.
