Premises liability considerations for the winter

When someone enters your property, they have a reasonable expectation that it is being maintained as a relatively safe environment, and it is your duty as a property owner to ensure that it is. This theory is called premises liability. Premises liability holds property owners liable for accidents and injuries that occur on their property. Of course, there are always exceptions. For example, if the mail man slips and falls on a patch of ice on your sidewalk, you may be responsible to pay for his injuries. However, this only applies if it can be proven that he did not act in any unsafe or negligent manner that could have contributed to or caused the incident.

New Technology May Help Traumatic Brain Injuries in Athletes

Sports-related head injuries have received a lot more attention in recent years, leading to the research and development of new technologies that could seriously decrease the risk for athletes everywhere. The leading cause of death from sports-related injuries is traumatic brain injury.  A traumatic brain injury (TBI) is caused by a blow or jolt to the head, creating a whiplash that forces the brain, which normally floats around in a cushion of fluid, to slam violently against the skull. Symptoms of a TBI can be mild, moderate or severe, depending on the extent of damage to the brain.

Company Holiday Parties Mean Liability Risk

Company holiday parties can be a great way to reward your employees for a year's worth of hard work and dedication, but they can also be a breeding ground for safety and liability issues. Follow these tips to help keep your work party fun and accident-free.

Homeowner holiday safety

The holiday season calls for gift giving, family get-togethers and festive decorations. With all the fun going on, it's easy to let the Christmas spirit distract you from all the potential safety hazards that are sure to put a damper on your celebrations. Here are a few tips to keep you and your family safe this season:

Winter Driving

With winter approaching, drivers need to take extra caution when driving in winter weather. It's important to do a check up for your vehicle before the weather gets too bad. It is recommended that drivers check the tire pressure when temperatures start to drop as tire pressure goes down when outside temperatures decrease. The battery and charging system also needs to be up to fully functioning for the winter. Because it takes more power to get the engine started in the winter than it does in the summer your car's battery needs to be charged to prevent ignition problems.
