New Study Highlights Flaws of Zofran Study Results

A recent study by Gideon Koren, M.D., from the University of Toronto Department of Pediatrics provides a review of assorted literature related to Zofran use and the development of birth defects. Crucially, Dr. Koren cites problems with a 2013 study conducted by Pasternak that found no statistically significant relationship between a mother's use of Zofran and birth defects.

Filing A Social Security Disability Claim

Illegal Actions Used in Promoting Zofran

Zofran is a prescription medication manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) that was originally approved by the FDA in 1991 to treat chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting. Since its introduction into the market, Zofran has become a common prescription used by pregnant women in the first trimester to quell the side effects of morning sickness. However, the use of Zofran in pregnant women was not approved by the FDA and there was never adequate information about the drug's safety to indicate Zofran could be used safely in pregnant women.

Zofran Use Linked to Birth Defects

The anti-nausea medication Zofran has recently been linked to multiple birth defects. Zofran is a powerful drug developed by drug manufacturer GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) to treat chemotherapy related nausea. The drug was originally approved in 1991 for use in cancer patients who required chemo or radiation. While the drug was designed and approved to treat nausea in cancer patients, the drug has been marketed as an effective and safe treatment for pregnancy related nausea and vomiting. In 1995, oral doses of Zofran were approved for vomiting and nausea in post operative patients.

What is Social Security Disability Insurance

Most employees go about their daily work without ever thinking of the possibility of becoming disabled. However, the chances of becoming disabled as a result of workplace injuries or as a result of other illnesses and ailments are greater than most people would ever imagine. The Social Security Administration reports that just over 1 in 4 of today's 20 year-olds will become disabled before reaching age 67, the current full retirement age under the federal Social Security system. If a person becomes disabled, it often has devastating effects on a person's or a family's finances. As the figure above demonstrates, that devastation could happen to 25% of the workforce before the age of retirement. However, there is hope. The federal Social Security Administration provides much needed benefits to disabled workers.

Car accident fatalities fall to record lows

In 2014, approximately 35,400 people were killed as a result of car accidents. This means that the annual mileage death rate dropped to 1.18 deaths per 100 million miles traveled. According to the National Safety Council, the estimated annual mileage death matches the lowest preliminary estimates on record for the National Safety Council.

Bus and truck drivers aren't alone in risks of drowsy driving

It's no secret that long haul truck drivers and bus drivers can suffer from fatigue and drowsy driving. Pressures from delivery schedules and route selection often cause truck drivers to push the limits of the law when trying to make a delivery on time. However, while these types of drivers are often the most thought of when it comes to dangerous, drowsy driving, other professions also are at risk for the dangers of drowsy driving.
