Motorcyclists have the same rights and responsibilities as any other driver on the road. However, because motorcyclists can be more difficult to see, it is important to take precautions to look out for motorcycles when driving. This is particularly important as motorcycles are less visible and less stable than cars, so when an accident happens, motorcyclists are more likely to be injured or killed, with many injured sustaining serious head injuries. May is motorcycle safety awareness month, and rightly so. As the dreariness and cold of winter come to an end and spring brings warmer weather and longer days, more people are hitting the roads on their motorcycles. Motorcycles are an enjoyable hobby for many people in West Virginia and safety must always be a top priority. Throughout the month, we will have several blog posts concerning motorcycle safety.

Safety Reminders for Motorcyclists

Motorcycles have recently become a more popular form of transportation and since May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness month, the Manchin Injury Law Group would like to remind motorcyclists to be aware of their surroundings and other vehicles in order to prevent a possibly fatal collision.

Barbour County, WV Motorcycle Collisions send 3 to Area Hospitals

Two seperate motorcycle collisions over the weekend in Barbour County have sent three people to area hospitals.  The first collision occurred around 1:30 p.m. on Stringtown Road off of Route 92 in Belington.  Barbour County Sheriff, John Hawkins, said the collision occurred when a man driving a pickup truck pulled out in front of a motorcycle.  The driver of the motorcycle was taken by ambulance to Davis Memorial Hospital, while his female passenger was life-flighted by Healthnet to Ruby Memorial Hospital.

Motorcycle Safety in West Virginia

Motorcycle collisions can be very serious and often deadly. As Spring comes into full gear and warm weather and nice days become more frequent, motorcycle enthusiasts are more visibile on our West Virginia roads.   Here are some safety tips for motorcyclists from the US Department of Transportation:
