Gas Well Incident Causes Fatality

A Lewis County, West Virginia, man has died following an incident at a Tyler County, West Virginia, natural gas drilling site.  The incident which occurred last Thursday took place at a U.S. Well Services Site in Tyler County.  Various news agencies are reporting that the incident occurred when the individual was pinned between a truck and a stationary object. 

Workplace Deaths at 7 Year High

According to preliminary numbers released by the Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries from the U.S. Department of Labor, 2014 workplace fatalities increased to the highest levels since 2008. According to the reported data, a total of 4,679 workplace fatalities occurred in 2014, up 2 % from 2013's total of 4,585.

Citations Issued in Harrison County, WV Cell Tower Collapse

On Thursday, July 31, 2014, the federal Occupational, Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) issued citations and fined S&S Communications Specialists $14,000.00 for two serious safety violations. The citations to the Oklahoma Company stem from three deaths when the cell tower collapsed in February.

OSHA investigation could take up to six months.

According to recent news reports, the February 1, 2014, collapse of cell towers could take up to six months to investigate. According to OSHA's area director, Prentice Cline, OSHA arrived at the site of the collapse on Saturday and has started collecting evidence.
