One person was killed over the weekend in an All Terrain Vehicle Accident outside of Mannington, West Virginia, in Marion County. According to local reports, around two o’clock on Saturday, July 14, 2014, an ATV accident occurred after an ATV rolled on the top of a hill on Mods Run Road. Health net responded to the scene but no one was life flighted to the hospital. Reports indicate that three people were involved in the accident and one person was killed. The Marion County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the matter.
This is high point of “crunch time” for ATV riders-a critical period when riding season and ATV-related incidents are at their peaks. ATVs can be enjoyable, but also can be extremely dangerous. ATVs are designed to be driven off-road and can be difficult to control on paved surfaces. When driven on paved surfaces, ATVs have a higher risk of overturning or colliding with vehicles.

When riding an ATV, always keep the following safety tips in mind:
· Don’t drive an ATV on a paved surface road.
· Always wear a helmet and other protective gear such as long pants, gloves, and eye protection.
· Take a safety course on the safe operation of ATVs
· Do not allow a child under 16 to operate or ride an adult ATV
· Do not drive ATVs with a passenger
