Remember to Buckle Up Before Hitting the Road this Thanksgiving

Historically, Thanksgiving is the busiest travel time of the year, placing more people on the road and, unfortunately, increasing the likelihood of car crashes. Each year, tens of thousands of people across the country die in motor vehicle crashes. In 2013, more than 300 people were killed in crashes on Thanksgiving weekend alone.

Happy Hunting: Be Safe and Good Luck

Hunting in West Virginia is a family tradition across the state. Each year more than 350,000 hunters go to the woods in search of game. With the start of the Buck firearm season on November 23, 2015, it is important that this tradition continues in a safe manner. The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources provides a regulation summary for white-tail deer hunter which can be found here. Study: Driver Distractions can extend 27 Seconds Beyond Act

A recent study from the American Automobile Association (AAA) Foundation for Traffic Safety concludes that unsafe mental distractions can last as long as 27 seconds after a driver engages in a distracted behavior such as dialing a phone, changing music, or sending a text message using voice commands.

Fairmont Police: Distracted Driving Citations on the Rise

Although it has been illegal to operate a hand held cell phone while driving in West Virginia since 2013, it hasn't stopped people from hand held phone use. According to the Fairmont, WV, police department, since the inception of the law banning hand held phone usage while driving, citations in Fairmont have increased by the police department. In 2014, the Fairmont Police Department reported issuing 104 citations to drivers using mobile phone while there have already been 235 citations given out during 2015.

US Soccer Implements New Guidelines Amid Concussion Dangers

US Soccer, the governing organization for soccer in the United States announced Monday that new rules for "heading" a ball for soccer players. In soccer, heading a ball is simply that, hitting the ball with one's head to move the ball forward. US Soccer's new guidelines state that there should be no heading by any players under the age of 10. The guidelines also mandate that for children 11 to 13, heading should be limited to practices only.

Sharing the Road with Tractor Trailers- Be Safe and Alert

If you live in North Central West Virginia, it is nearly impossible to avoid driving on Interstate 68 or Interstate 79 during your travels. If you have travelled on the interstate, you have driven near or next to a tractor trailer. Chances are you have also seen many of the recent news articles discussing the numerous tractor trailer accidents on these interstates.
