2015 Traffic Deaths Rose by largest percent in 50 years

According to the National Safety Council, motor vehicle deaths in 2015 saw the largest percentage rise in the past 50 years. Preliminary estimates show an 8% increase in motor vehicle deaths over 2014. The National Safety Council estimates that in 2015 38,300 people were killed on U.S. roads and 4.4 million were seriously injured-making 2015 the deadliest driving year since 2008.

Interstate 79 Car Wreck Leaves Two Dead

A car accident on Thursday, February 25, 2016, left two people dead. The wreck occurred around 3:52 p.m. midway between the Roanoke interchange of I-79 and a rest area in Lewis County, West Virginia. According to news and police reports, a Kanawha County man lost control of his SUV he was driving in the southbound lane when the vehicle went through the median into the northbound lanes and collided with a Dodge Caravan.

Gas Well Incident Leaves One Dead

A natural gas well accident that occurred Tuesday afternoon left a Richie County man dead. According to various news reports, the accident occurred while an individual was working for the Ronald Lane Pipeline Construction Company near North Bunner Ridge Road in Marion County, West Virginia.

Johnson & Johnson ordered to pay $72 million for cancer death linked to talcum powder

A jury in the circuit court of St. Louis, Missouri, awarded $72 million in damages to the family of Jacqueline Fox who had died of ovarian cancer. The verdict, announced Monday night, came after a trial where lawyers alleged that Johnson & Johnson's talc-based Baby Powder and Shower to Shower was linked to ovarian cancer. Ms. Fox was diagnosed with ovarian cancer after having used Johnson's Baby Powder and Shower to Shower for feminine hygiene for more than 35 years. The verdict is the first by a U.S. jury to award damages over the claims. The verdict included $10 million in actual damages and $62 million in punitive damages.
