Halloween is a fun time for kids throughout West Virginia. Kids get to dress up as something else and get gobs and gobs of candy! However, when travelling through neighborhoods and knocking on stranger’s doors, it is important to remember some things that will keep you safe so that you are able to have a more enjoyable experience on Halloween.
· Never go into a strangers home or ring their door for treats unless supervising adults/parents are with trick-or-treaters.
· Be careful when crossing the street. Make sure to look in both directions and that there are no cars coming in either direction.
· Plan a safe trick-or-treating route so parents know where their older children will be at all times and set a time for them to be home.
· Instruct your kids not to pass through back alleys if they are alone. Make sure they know to stay in populated areas and not to go off of the beaten path.
· Tell your children not to eat any treats until they bring them home to be examined by you. This way you can ensure the candy obtained is safe.
· Give your child a flashlight or make sure they have reflective tape on their costume so that they are more visible to adults.
