A new study from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety concluded that West Virginia has the highest rate of ATV deaths on public roads throughout the nation. The study concluded that between 2007 and 2011, rider deaths on public roads throughout the nation totaled 1,701.
While West Virginia led the nation in on-public-road fatalities, West Virginia ranks third in total fatal wrecks at 96, behind Kentucky and Pennsylvania.
The study also found that men over the age of 16 were more likely to die in crashes and that in fatal crashes, few people wore helmets and many were impaired by alcohol.
