This weekend is the last weekend of summer for most Americans. Many will hit the road to take one last trip during the long weekend. With more people on the road, safety becomes even more important to drivers. The National Safety Council estimates over 400 people will be killed and another 48,000+ will be seriously injured this weekend.
During this time, local law enforcement will focus their attention on drivers that are under the influence. If you are attending any functions where you consume alcohol, please remember to designate a non-drinking driver and that a seatbelt is the best defense against another drunk driver. When travelling, keep these tips in mind: make sure all passengers in your car are wearing seatbelts, allow plenty of travel time to avoid frustrations, don’t text while driving, drive defensively and use caution.
The National Safety Council (NSC) has assigned letter grades to states based on their laws in an effort to avoid all preventable roadway fatalities. States that receive an A have strong laws sobriety checkpoints, seat belt laws, and texting bans. We are proud to say that West Virginia is one of only seven states that received an A.
Highways are not the only place to worry about being extra cautious this weekend. Many people will be swimming and grilling so use caution during these activities to avoid any injuries, fatalities, and property damage. The attorneys and staff at the Manchin Injury Law Group wishes everyone an enjoyable and safe Labor Day weekend.
Attorney Timothy Manchin established the Manchin Injury Law Group in 2011 after his law partner of more than 25 years became a West Virginia circuit court judge. His focus is on helping individual clients and entire families victimized by negligent acts.
