Cheat Lake Boat Accident Injures 12

Over Memorial Day weekend on Cheat Lake in Monongalia County, 12 people were injured in a boating accident. The accident was reported just before 9 p.m. on Monday close to the Cheat Lake's Sunset Beach Marina near Warm Hollow. DNR officials believe that a 23-foot Malibu speed boat hit the shore with 12 individuals aboard. Nine of the individuals were transported to local hospitals, while three were taken by air in critical condition.

Hunting Safety

The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources is asking hunters to take extra precautions, especially during the two week buck firearm season. Hunters need to be careful when using tree stands. Tree stand accidents are the most common accidents for hunters, according to DNR chief Col. Jerry Jenkins. One in three hunters who use tree stands will suffer a fall. Falling from these heights often cause serious injuries and can lead to death. Below are some tips on how to keep safe during hunting season.

Have a Safe Halloween!

Halloween is a fun time for children and families to dress up, enjoy gatherings, and eat plenty of treats. It is also a time when everyone needs to take extra care for pedestrians during trick-or-treating to avoid injury, or even worse, death. Be aware of your surroundings at all times whether you're a driver or a pedestrian to avoid causing a fun time to turn into a tragedy in a split second.

Bicycle Safety for All Ages

A bicycle isn't just a toy-it's also a vehicle. Just like any other car or truck, safety is important when riding a bike to prevent injuries. The cause of accidents and injuries are usually related to the behavior of the bicyclist. Be sure to take safety precautions before and during your bike rides.

Bike Smart, Bike Safe

Traffic laws apply to persons riding bicycles. Every person riding a bicycle upon a roadway shall be granted all of the rights and shall be subject to all of the duties applicable to the driver of a vehicle by this chapter, except as to special regulations in this article and except as to those provisions of this chapter which by their nature can have no application. Cyclists and drivers need to use caution when sharing the road to avoid collisions leading to injuries or fatalities.
